im the only one getting mad at this? i hate to see these little icons wasting screen space all the time, it was one of the things i loved about WP, minimalism, now it looks just like everything else, there is a drop down notf center like there is on ios and android and the damn status bar always on, jeez, i hope they fix this asap, give the user the option to hide this mess :eck:

That's not a bug. That's how it works now. From this article: Signal strength, data connection, Wi-Fi, Battery, Location and more all remain on the screen; they no longer auto-hide

I kinda fear that they will cause burn-in on AMOLED displays. Anyone know how long you would have to leave something on the screen before it starts burning-in?

I'm using the WPCentral app and they are gone. It must be only when you are in the OS. Realistically it shouldn't cause burn-in because your display will time out unless you are actively doing stuff in the OS

yes i know it is how it is now, but i hate it, and yes they seem to auto hide for some apps and when you type in, but i want them gone at all times unless i pull em down like it used to be, at least give us the option to toggle that ??

also i wasnt considering the amoled burn in thing, now im even more angry at this move by ms, damn

I also want it to be in auto hide.

Its useless to pin the battery saver app on the start screen then. I wonder why a lot of folks recommended pinning that when the battery icon is always right there.

They also moved in the time and signal strength bars. In 8.0 they used to be in the corners and be full white. In 8.1 they're moved in a bit and are now transparent and basically disappear when you scroll the start screen up and down.

I too miss that they auto hide. It's what made things more minimalistic on my start screen, and if I really wanted to see them, I'd swipe them down to see them at a glance, and they would auto hide again.

This needs to be an option.

Personally, I like seeing the icons.
Whenever an app gives the option to show the status bar, I always show it (apps that I create always show the, as well).
I do agree that a user-configurable option would be nice, though.

Yes the icons at the corners were better..

I agree: it's better when they hide, it serves the minimalist purpose of Metro better. I don't like the idea of having a bar on top that is not part of the app, like you have in Android. In some way, this already is happening. if you open WhatsApp, the splashscreen is first complete, but then you see a black bar on top, as if the app isn't full screen anymore. This gives a disjoint experience as the OS becomes way too dominant then.

Or, at least make it user-configurable like Joshua Jackson proposed? I mean, it's in terms of design real easy to make those icons visible when you open the notification center, just let it appear like the battery percentage, date and the operator name.

Is there a user voice entry for this already?

I came here looking for the setting to turn off the status bar. Now that they changed it there are many apps that are losing functionality because the bar is now on top of them the interface. This should be a configurable option. I thought my phone was bugged, but now I come to find out "it's a feature".

Kind of got excited seeing this thread again. I thought maybe MS put back one of the features that made Windows Phone so nice and clean. Sigh.

There's a special place in hell for those that whined to MS about the status bar auto-hiding. Same place for those that wanted games in the app list.

lol if only those decision maker guys took a look at this thread, maybe they could change their minds.. I mean how difficult can it be to leave an option to roll back to whatever was present before "upgrading" the software, its common sense, if people whine about wp being black and want it pink instead, what do you do? change it to pink and **** on those that liked the black theme? that's what people at ms have been doing since forever

It's supposed to be that way. That was something quite a few people complained about having to tap constantly to see battery or time.

Go to the windows phone user voice and put in a request to have an option to auto-hide. I think it'd be a good idea.

Wait - there were people who actually wanted that? Really? What, was it maybe 3 people? I hated that in 8.1. Which is why I upgraded to 8.0 from 8.1
