Are you referring to windows phone apps?? Just about all of them can over ride the lock screen I use a program called " timer" by VJ its simple and free , the reason I asked which OS is your message says it was sent from a note 2

I like this one:

Has stopwatch and countdown features, looks nice, can disable screen timeout, and resumes perfectly while it's still running without loss of time or restarting to 0, etc.
