Support for multiple Live/Outlook.com accounts is broken

A long time ago (around 2001/2002) I created my first Live account (now MS account) using a custom domain name, lets call it foo@bar.com. *Everything* uses this live account - xbox, onedrive, Skype, azure, etc.

About 2 years ago I decided to leave gmail for outlook.com so I created a new live account (lets call this one foobar@live.com) since I couldn't (and still can't afaik) use e-mail on my existing live account due to the fact that it's not an MS domain name.

On WP7 and 8, I simply set up my phone using my foo@bar.com account and then added foobar@live.com as a Hotmail account.

I just got a new Lumia 930 because the vibrate motor in my 920 seems to have died, and decided to set it up from scratch rather than restoring a backup from my 920. Everything was fine until I tried to add foobar@live.com as an outlook.com account - every time I tried I got an error message saying that "An account using foo@bar.com already exists named Outlook" (note here, that foo@bar.com is *not* the address of the account that I'm trying to add!)

So I went and renamed my MS account from "Outlook" to "MS account" and tried again and got the error message "An account using foo@bar.com already exists named MS account"...

So it looks like you can no longer add more than 1 outlook.com account which completely screws me over. I *can* however restore a backup from my 920 and all the accounts happily exist in harmony!?

I'm really hoping that someone else has come across this issue and found a work around?

With WP8.1, MS really seem to have forgotten the mantra "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"...:eck:

Hmm, I have 2 Outlook.com accounts set up on my Lumia 820 (running WP8.1 Preview). One (xxx@live.com) with an old Hotmail domain, another (xxx@custom.com) with a custom domain. The @live.com account is my primary account, the other I use just for email.

After upgrading to 8.1 I did a hard reset and set everything up as a new phone. Worked (and is still working) perfectly for me. So, I have no idea why it doesn't work for you. Sorry ...

Interesting... out of interest how did you get outlook.com to work with a custom domain? I didn't think that was possible?

Is the foo@bar account set up as an alias to the foobar@live account? Or vice versa? I'm asking because my husband insisted on setting up his Win 8 PC with an @att mail login, then added that as an alias to an @live account. When he got a WP, I had to surgically separate the two and tinker with the PC login to make the @live account the primary across all devices, then I was able to add the @att mail as a separate email account.

Ahh... they are somehow linked because I can send from the live.com account as the foobar.com account, but it's not listed as an alias so I'll have to check that out... though I do need that ability since I essentially use the live.com account as the backing outlook.com account for the foobar.com address, so all foorbar.com mail gets forwarded there and everything I send *from* there comes from foobar.com.

Sounds like I'll need to find where that link is, break it, add the two accounts, and then re-link them :eck:

Or just move away from outlook.com and life would become so much easier... :eck:

Well, if all mails are forwarded to your outlook.com account - why do you need to set it up as a separate account then? In this case you should be able to get all your mails from the outlook.com account.

Regarding custom domains with outlook.com: That's no longer possible, but for a long time you were able to use a custom domain and outlook.com as your email provider. (http://domains.live.com)
