Hello,

My Surface Book arrived in the mail yesterday, and I am loving it. This is by far the best laptop that have owned. However, I have been having one issue with the Book that I could use some help with. I have been using it mainly for some light web browsing and note taking at this point, and the fan seems to be on and off intermittently the whole time. The fan is turning on when I have two tabs up on edge for instance, or when I have multiple documents going on Word. Is this to be expected? The device itself isn't getting particularly hot, which I guess means that the fans are doing their job. But should the fans be running so frequently?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I have the base model w/o dGPU and I've only noticed my fans kick on once and that was during the initial system updates.

No, it is not expected, but the SB is pretty bug-ridden at the moment. My SB frequently kicks the fan on for no apparent reason. When I look at task manager, it's due to "System and compressed memory" which is essentially the OS. Usually a reboot will fix it but it is pretty annoying.

The need to make the Surface Book 1" thick with the fans in the back so the customer knows it's cooling down!

Or if the back of the clipboard was transparent aluminum so you could see when the fan is spinning that would be sweet.
