Hi fellow forum members. I am wondering if the Surface Pro 2 is a viable product for me.

My current computer is a 2012 15'' Samsung series 9 which has the following specs:
-1.7 Ghz 3317U Intel Core 5 cpu
-8GB RAM
-128 GB SSD (this model has the sandisk u100 ssd so it sometimes lags on me)

My set-up:
-Toshiba USB 3.0 Dynadock station that powers the following:
--one 21.5'' Acer 1080p monitor
--one 23'' LG 1080p monitor
--connected printer
--keyboard,mouse, speakers,etc

As you can see, I value portability a lot as I have the Series 9 which is seriously thin. However, the subpar ssd is starting to bug me.

If I were to upgrade to the surface pro 2, would I see noticeable improvements in cpu (1.7ghz ivy bridge vs 1.6 ghz haswell), graphics (intel hd 4000 vs hd 4400), and most importantly ssd performance (sandisk u100 vs either 128gb/256gb in the surface pro 2).

Yes, the Surface Pro 2 would be a great product for you. It wouldn't be a massive upgrade because your current computer is pretty modern but you would definitely see an improvement. I went from a Lenovo Yoga 13 (similar specs as your Samsung) to a Surface Pro 2 and it feels so much faster. It's also WAY more portable because it's smaller and lighter. The one drawback is the screen size, you'll be going from a 15 inch screen to a 10 inch screen. This personally doesn't bother me because I tend to use the Pro 2 in situations where it's closer to my face if that makes sense. But if you use your computer mostly docked with the two large screens then screen size on the device won't be a problem.

As far as I know the Pro 2 should work with your USB 3.0 dock but I've never tested your specific model, you might want to do some research to make sure the dock doesn't have any issues with the Pro 2.

I'm currently using the SP2 with a Targus dock that utilizes the same diplaylink software and have no problems at all, it works very well actually. I leave the SP2 on the desk and am able to take notes in onenote and still have all of my necessary desktop apps open and running on my 25" HP monitor.

While I really like my SP2, in all honesty it's not going to be that big a change for you. In fact, if you're familiar with and comfortable with a 15" screen in your lap you may find the 10" surface on the small side. The touch capability/tablet form factor are the big adds you get with the SP2 and the Windows Store really needs to do some growth before that gets as good as it could/should be.

Me, I could never get comfortable with a laptop on the couch. The surface works well for couch/bed surfing, or being out but not wanting to lug around something big. And in my den I have the dock hooked up to my home theater and use a wireless keyboard with touchpad. It works very well.

You have 95% of your setup ready to go, and slotting out the laptop and replacing with an SP2 isn't going to change your experience all that much.
