The keyboard would be too big for surface 3. On top of that, compatibility issues is questionable. Perhaps you can try it out in the store.

Apart from the footprint being different the Pro 4 type cover will probably be compatible with the Surface 3, as my RT keyboard can be used on my Pro 3.
As you said, it'll be worth testing the keyboard in the store as the Surface 3's got a shorter length than the RT's and the Pro's, so the magnetic connector might be a bit too long.

I might try this. Would be good to have the Pro 4 keyboard at work for longer typing sessions, the standard keyboard can then o the surfing tasks.
