I assumed the duo would charge it, but it looks like you need a cover that is not available to buy yet.

I found I can't use the Slim Pen 1 charger for Pen 2. Won't update the firmware.

My pen won't charge with my charging accessory

If your pen isn't charging with the Surface Pro X Signature Keyboard or the USB-charging base, you might need to update its firmware. Here's how:

Connect your charging accessory to your Surface.

Place your pen in the storage area.

Select Start > Settings > Windows Updates > Check for updates, then install any available updates.

Keep your accessory connected until the update finishes. You might need to restart your PC.

My pen still doesn't work

If you'd like to request a replacement pen, go to Device service and repair. Sign in with your Microsoft account and select a surface or register a new device.

I am finding slim pen 2 works great with SD1, maybe even better than with SD2 by a slim margin. Using new $34 charger. 2.

I tried using other pens from Microsoft and 3rd party and were not as good - but was $130 + $34 investment.

In a classic MS move, the charger firmware needs to be updated but that requires another Surface. In the video below he talks about it at the 17:50 mark.
