Swap from 640 to 650 - worth it?

I have had a 640 since they appeared. Now I see the 650 is available and its reasonably cheap, plus at least looks better built than the 640 and the 950s.

I have read up on the specification differences, build quality changes etc but am looking for some real-world experiences from anyone who may have jumped from 640 to 650.

Any input welcomed - thanks.

If you don't mind losing some features such as Magnetometer, orientation sensor, SensorCore and other features of SoC SD400 8226/8926. Only gain is additional 8G of storage compared to 640.

What about the 650's OLED screen versus the 640's IPS LCD - For me one of the relative weaknesses of the 640 is the screen.

It sure doesn't look like a gain comparing specs, and all my phones go in a case immediately so I could care less what it looks like. You can't beat the 640 for the money right now if you can find one at the under $30 price like I did. Running .164 on my 640 and it works well too.

I think it depends on your priorities for a phone. The 650 has more built in storage but both will take microSD anyway. The 650 is supposed to look and feel more premium, and the 640 is definitely somewhat plasticky. The 650 has a better front facing camera. The 640 has a bigger battery but its unclear how that actually stacks up in real world use. If you need a compass the 650 is no good, same with tap-to-wake.
The 640 is cheap as chips right now.

What I'd love is for any real world experiences with both handsets. I cannot afford a 950 at the moment, plus it also looks pretty plasticky. I'd rather hold out for an HP Elite X3!

OLED is very good but you will need to take care of preventing burn-ins. There's no burn-ins on 640.

Also, one being better over the other is very subjective. For you, the 650 wins for the display. For me, the 640 wins for the display.

I dont have a preference TBH - just wonder if anyone has tried both side by side.

I have owned a 640 (still got a 640XL). Performance is pretty much the same - 650 seems to work just as well as my 640XL and 735. The screen is better, just go to a store and have a look. It's not as good as the screen on my 735 but it is definitely more vibrant than the 640. Sure, if a magnetometer is top of your priorities you should look elsewhere. Battery life is good, the processor/oled screen probably contribute to that. Standby is excellent - 2% overnight. The main difference is more intangible....it just feels a LOT more premium. I am tired of reading armchair reviews by 640 owning (never touched a 650) posters who seem to think picking (selectively) on 1 or 2 specs makes a decent case. No substitute for trying it. Is it worth the extra cash? If you have it, sure - it's not exactly expensive. It's a nice phone and overall, a step up from the 640.

Good for you. Would be interested to see what you think. This handset has surprised me more than any Lumia I've bought because my expectations weren't high and it surpassed them. Most people had written it off based on the specs alone - it didn't help that original reports pegged it with the slower earlier snapdragon 210 1.1Ghz processor. As emerging benchmark analysis has shown, the snapdragon 212 actually outperforms the old 400 in many areas. It's just a shame they didn't pair it with an adreno 305 or 306 GPU which probably would have returned a clear and unambiguous performance increase over the 400. I have owned mine for 2 weeks now and I have used it 75% of the time while my 950XL (awesome but why oh why didn't they build it as well) has been in the drawer. It's not a better phone by a long way....but it 'feels' great. It's light but solid and performance is not an issue.

I own neither phone (have 635), but am looking at these also. the 650 gets a major plus from me for size, it is thinner & lighter. the other spec important to me is LTE, which is still a question for US AT&T since not officially released last I heard.
