Tape mode on YouTube

What is it? Is it just a video filter that they threw in for fun, or is it actually a purpose to it?

Haven't tried it yet, but from what I've read it seems to make videos appear like they are being played like a VHS. I don't understand why youtube puts the work into a fad like this when they should just fix the youtube page. The waste of space on the right half of the page, the redundancy throughout "what to watch" and "my subscriptions", watched videos remaining in sub box but also have a tab for watch history?!

Yeah I agree totally! I would've preferred a pop out option over the tape mode. But oh well.

Maybe YouTube should open up a suggestions box.
