The new Surface Pro Flex Keyboard costs $349.99, but is there a method to Microsoft's madness?

I just wish they would have updated the $279 keyboard/pen to include the new larger haptic touchpad and stiffer construction (no battery/bluetooth). But I suppose that would have been too small of an upsell for the Flex.

I just placed the preorder. The Flex keyboards in color are apparently "sold out." They do have black available which I'm not interested. So final price was $1349 + sales tax for the Snapdragon X Elite with OLED display, Sapphire, WiFi, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD. I can slum it with my current keyboards and pens.

It balances out. When I bought the Surface Pro 9 16GB/256GB model, it was $1599. Now you get the new machine with OLED with 16GB/512GB for $1349! deflation! (i jest). a much better screen and twice the storage for hundreds less.

Still rocking my Surface Pro X. (16/512) Especially with the updates over the years, it's been the best Windows Device I've had. Will get even better for work once Fortinet releases Forticlient 7.4 later today with ARM support.

Curious, Microsoft says the Pro 8 works with the Flex keyboard. Any word if it will work on the Pro X as well, since the Pro 8 keyboards work there as well?

Welcome to Windows Central!

$ 100. more gets you a pen, not too bad (I haven't ordered on yet but will)((Surface Pro 11th Edition, Snapdragon X))

Apple Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro (not wireless): $349.00 CAD
Apple Pencil Pro: $129.00 CAD
TOTAL: $478.00 CAD

Surface Pro Flex Keyboard (wireless) with Slim Pen: $599.99 CAD
TOTAL: $599.99 CAD

Microsoft is more expensive in Canada (comparing the iPad Pro accessories with the Surface Pro ones). But the Surface one is able to be used detached. But is that functionality alone worth $121.99 CAD more?

It probably does work if you're using Windows 11. The detached mode is connected via Bluetooth.
If the physical SP8 or 9 keyboard fit on the X, it would work in attached mode too.
