there are only two things I don't like about 8.1

the games in the app list and Cortana's almost silent alarms. I set it to see how it worked for baking cookies, and if I hadn't also set the oven alarm, I would have set the house on fire. And I had the phone in my pocket.

Please, someone must know how to make the alarm alarming!!!

The games in the app list are most likely to make it consistent with Win8.1/RT.

As for that alarm...I'm quite sure there are separate volume controls in the OS.
