To Update or Not to Update?

Hello!

For a long time, I've been opposed to updating the software on my computers. I like having a sense of stability with my computers by having the operating systems on them always stay the same and never update.

However, with the rise of automatic updates that can't be turned off, this is getting harder to do. So...could someone please convince me that software updates are a good thing?

I am not sure if I can because you "never" updated and don't have a problem.
But software updates are not made to "annoy" people. They are made to fix bugs, improve the safety of the Operating System and add new features.
So if you "never" update and get a problem (which would be prevented by an update) then do not complain.

Good luck.

I'm not really talking about security updates (although I don't install those either); it's more the feature updates that I don't like.

Okay but feature updates are also basically done to add more functionality to the OS or to software. If you however do not like them then indeed the best what you can do is not installing these update.
But actual this is called "progress" otherwise we still had probably all still DOS.
Or in other words do not expect that they "first ask you" if you want this or that feature because this makes it much more complicated and probably "only" serves a minority of consumers. (Which probably are also not the most important target group of Microsoft, or in other words they "do not care")
Bye the way I respect your opinion and above is not intended to "attack" you.
