Too many background tasks???

Hello friends.
I've been having an issue as of lately with my Lumia 800 running 7.8 (8862) where it's telling me I have too many background tasks and that I should have only 15 (which I totally do) but I was given the understanding that that number got bumped to 30 way back in Mango. I never got to test this in Mango because I didn't have that many tiles pinned but of course in 7.8 that number increased rapidly.

What I want to know is... am I wrong or there's something wrong with my unit?

Appreciate the response.

Much Love!

I would say the number is 15, which I thought was lower than that. We can't have 30 background tasks going on wp8.

I am pretty sure 15 is the max. I actually try to keep mine to 6-8.

Wow, I'm actually surprised if that is still the case. I found on this site a little bit of info on the topic, it says:
Live Tile limit bumped: Currently, you can only have 15 Live Tiles on your phone. Starting with Mango, that goes to 30.

I'm pretty sure that I heard them say at Build that on WP8 there's pretty much no limit (I'll try to find the source of that) and if the limit on 7.8 is still 15, that means that what got promised in Mango never came to fruition.

Anyway, is not a huge deal, I was just befuddled by the whole thing. :P

UPDATE: This is very intriguing indeed, here's the video from Build that confirms that in Mango the limit was set at 30 and that it has increased in 8. (They got rid of the limit). Check it out at the 5:10 mark. http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/Build/2012/2-019

I really do believe I have a problem in my hands.

I think you're confusing live tiles with background tasks. The limit of 15 for background tasks sounds right, in fact I thought it was less than that. The limit of 30 is for the total number of live tiles that you're allowed to have. Not all live tiles use background tasks.

You know what??? After giving it some serious thought I think you might be right. Somehow I always assumed that they made reference solely to tiles with background tasks because I don't see harm with apps that don't have them being pinned. Having said that, I believe I might have opened a can of worms here because that opens up questions about the limit on 7.8, cause I can tell you right now I have 50 tiles pinned to my Start screen (including the default, first party ones). So, it's not 30 anymore???

I just wish that someone with a WP8 device and a different 7.8 device (I have a Lumia 800) would try it and report back, just for kicks.

Anyhow, thank you. I talked to people on the WP team and although they were unable to tell me the exact limit (they said it varied by device) they made me realize there's probably not a problem with my unit. :P

There's a difference between regular tiles and live tiles. As far as I know, there's no limit on the total number of tiles that you can have pinned. But there is a limit on live tiles (meaning tiles that change their appearance).
