Many have seen or heard about the App "Touch Zoom Desktop" and I was wondering what others' experience with it has been.

It needs to be 'side-loaded' since it's not on the official Windows App Store. The author explains it this way:

"When you install this application Windows SmartScreen may warn you that "this app might put your PC at risk (which means that we could not afford the pay Microsoft for their approval)."

Here's an excellent YouTube video showing it in action. Start at 1 minutes 8 seconds in:

Why I Love My Microsoft Surface 3 - Ultimate Tips and Tricks

I'm a little reluctant to install this, as my S3 is working extremely well, and I'd hate for some 3rd party App to potentially screw things up. So I was just wondering who here has been using it - what do you think, any problems apparent?

Thanks.

This is a terrific program and I recommend it.

It is buggy though so if you notice the pinch/zoom functionality is not working, you simply flip the on/off toggle. I've had to do that a number of times.

It looks like a good idea, but I think there is more to why it isn't an official app than he is saying.
There are some pretty small developers with approved apps in the store. So, it looks lazy and cheap at best and suspicious at worst.
Too buggy to meet even the lax approval standards of the Windows store? Accessing unapproved APIs? Security issues?

It's because it's not a Windows Store app. It is a desktop program. A traditional Win32 program. Just because it's not a WinRT app doesn't mean you should be worried.

Microsoft is trying to get everyone to make WinRT apps and universal apps. But many people don't want to. Also, this is for pinching and zooming the DESKTOP. Modern apps are sandboxes and don't have full access to the system. Perhaps a Modern app cannot control the desktop in this manner.

You also have to be aware of how Smartscreen works. If SmartScreen doesn?t know about an application ? whether it?s a new form of malware or just a niche program that few people use ? Windows 8 will prevent the application from running on your computer.

Like with any other program, if you're worried about it, you could always test it in a virtual machine which is sandboxed from the rest of your system.

Frequently the app stops working so I have to toggle the little on/off switch on the taskbar. But apart from that when it is working it works perfectly. Really comes in handy when I need to press something in File Explorer.
