I live in Thailand where Cortana is not available so I chose US as my region so that I can benefit from her functionality. Couple weeks ago during the new year holiday, I travel to China. I did not use chinese local SIM nor roaming my Lumia 1520. I put my phone to airplane mode. When I got to China, I manually set my time zone to Beijing. But my phone region is still be US. I meant to stay offline during my holiday but the then missing Air Asia news caught my attention. I don't understand Chinese language so local tv is out of the question and I connect my 1520 to hotel Wi-Fi. I sure open Cortana to looking for the news but all of the news is in Chinese too. Well be cause I travel to China doesn't mean that I can suddenly know their language. Web browsing using hotel Wi-Fi is impossibly slow but the news all seem very fast (don't know why) so I ended up with waves news reader. Is anyone experience the same? Or did I get my setup wrong? Please share.

Okay, here's the thing. There is a lot of censorship done on news in China, so the safest way for Cortana to get news is probably just to hook up to the Chinese aggregator.

Filtered news is better than no news, after all, if you're a news aggregator.

Yes but the filtered content should be I English in stead of Chinese. I can't read Chinese.

Did you just ask for nres or did you ask Cortana to give the new to you in English.?

My guess... Just a guess...

The Chinese servers redirected the lookup requests from your device and in that case not a thing can be done about it other than the workarounds the Chinese themselves do to obtain "banned" internet connections. None of it has to do with your Lumia or Cortana.
