I wanted to get the pulse of users and developers on trial and ads. A little background on me. I have a few apps (soundboards) in the store that have ads and want to move in a different direction. I want to know what users would be more likely to warm up to. Fully functional and free with ads, fully functional trial that removes ads when paid, limited ad free trial that becomes fully functional when paid, fully functional time limited ad free trial or free app without ads and in app purchases to unlock different levels of functionality.

I personally enjoy the free w/ ads approach. This way it gives me access to understand what the app is all about, and if I like it, I'll certainly support the developer. (ie 6Tag, 6snap, I paid to remove ads from both).

I feel trials only make people want to avoid it. Trials sound limiting and people may not get a full understanding of what your app is supposed to do, or experience the main features if they're hidden behind a purchase.

As a user and developer myself, I would push towards my first subject.

Yep I would go with the same approach. Fully free with ads. If users like your apps they'll buy it.

I prefer full with ads as well.
I've been considering developing and I've been wondering, do you get more revenue from someone paying 99 cents or from ads? And if less with ads about how many cents do you get per user with ads? Thanks

That's a toss up. Ads don't pay out that much, but if no one buys at 99cents to remove ads, than ads make more money :p

Currently all of my apps except one are free with ads. The exception is paid copy of one of the free ones, and it has a free trial that is fully functioning, with payment removing ads. In the future, I will switch from this model to fully free, with ads, and use in-app purchase to remove ads - at least until I come up with an app idea that I feel is worthy of charging for the whole thing.
