Type Cover backlight not working (not the usual problem!)

Recently obtained a Surface Pro 4 and Type Cover and I'm loving it so far, one niggle tough is that the backlight on the Type Cover doesn't illuminate. After googling the issue everyone responds that the way to turn it on is to use to tap Fn + F2 to change it's brightness and to turn it back on in the process. Unfortunately this doesn't work - what it actually does on mine is change the screen brightness!

I can't seem to find any way to modify this behavior or any other way of turning the backlight on.

I've tried:

* Rebooting (multiple times)

* Removing & reattaching the Type Cover (multiple times)

* Removing the Type Cover in "Devices" and re-installing it

* Updating the Type Cover drivers (already "best drivers" according to Win 10)

* Updating Win 10 itself (currently fully up to date)

All the other lights on the keyboard (Capslock and Fn-Lock) seem to work perfectly and the keyboard itself and the trackpad seem to work fine.

It's first world problems really since it doesn't make a massive difference but it's annoying me because it *should* work!

Any ideas?
