Unable to get my HTC One M8 to roll back to 8.1

Using the Windows phone recovery tool. It picks up my phone in the beginning. I click on that and it says to put my phone into boot-loader mode. Do that successfully then.. nothing. The recovery tool just stays on the screen saying to put my m8 into boot-loader. Nothing happens. Any advice or help would be much appreciated.

do you connect your phone when it's powered on?

you should try this: connect your phone to the computer after shutting it off, the windows phone recovery tool should identify the phone and do all the work (if it doesn't, press for a second the power button and the program should start working).

this is the procedure one can use to revive a soft-bricked lumia, it works almost every time and needs no operation on the phone

​I just tried connecting the phone after turning it off and doing nothing like you said. Didnt work. Then tried unplugging it, then getting it into boot-loader mode then plugging it back up to the pc and that didnt work either.
