This depends on how much internet is made available to you by your service provider in 2G. You might be able to update, but the process would take a lot of time given the limited bandwidth - IF ANY.

In my experience, a 2G connection can be used for minor data transmissions (quick chats), but not for large data transmissions (updating FB, loading a page, downloading an app). Given this, you probably won't be able to update your phone successfully under 2G.
