I own the 1520.3 DP without "carrierstickyness" to it and i love it but now i see i have a problem going to cyan because AT&T is the only carrier pushing the update out for the 1520. Any suggestions?

I had contact today with Microsoft about this issue and this is part of their answer:

Steven B.: Can you check something on the phone for me please? Go to Settings > Extra+info > More > Manufacturer.
ron: first I had the 1520 from att but I did not like the 16gb and not qi wireless charging that they pulled out
ron: rm-938_ita_ita_905
Steven B.: Thanks, give me a few moments to check into that.
ron: ok
Steven B.: ron, I apologize for the delay. I am still reviewing my database and researching for a solution. Thank you for your patience.
ron: no problem
ron: I appreciate your help
Steven B.: So I looked into it, it appears this is an unbranded Italian phone. This means were waiting on the OEM to release the update in Italy. We don't know when this has be officially released but is due to release in the near future.

So my question is now how far are they in Italy with rolling out 8.1 and which carrier is this?

Don't quote me on it be I don't think it will be too long now, since other 1520s have been receiving the update (UK, Hungary, Taiwan, Finland and maybe a couple of others). If on the screen you were asked to look at, it says Country Variant or CV then your phone isn't locked to a specific carrier. With unlocked phones it doesn't matter what SIM is in the phone, as the update system goes off that the phone's ROM is, in your case the Italian Country Variant.

I'm guessing by DP you are running the developer preview - due to an issue regarding the Cyan update and phones with a certain configuration running the preview, Cyan updates have been paused for all devices running the preview until MS can sort a fix out - and they say that if you want the update earlier then you need to use the nokia recovery tool (have a hunt around there's a thread for it somewhere). Otherwise I would recommend sitting tight - they might release the fix around the same time Cyan is released in Italy.

Here's the link if you don't have it already, for Nokia's update tracking page: Availability in Europe - Nokia
