US carriers not allowing WP updates?

I am noticing that on Android Central, all of these big companies actually do update their Android phones. Before reading it there, I always thought that carriers just didn't feel like updating their devices, or at least they didn't allow it through so they aren't updated. Meanwhile on the other side, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T all allow their Androids (not low end) to be updated.

I'll like to know if this is a Windows Phone/Mobile thing, as in they don't update it because of the OS, or is it a carrier fault? Opinions are welcome.

Verizon is the only carrier that comes to mind for updating their phones? Correct me if I'm wrong.

updates normally have to be approved by the carrier. with windows 10, the carrier only needs to approve firmware updates.

with that said.... windows doesn't seem to be a priority for the carriers at all....
