Anyone have issues with their USB port? I have a thumb drive that doesn?t get recognized, and I can't install files on my Z30. All things work fine on my 6 and 7 year old Lenovo and Dell respectively.

It seems to be an issue with duration of data transfer. Works fine for a few seconds to about 30 and then I lose the data connection.

Yes I am having the same problem. Just got the dock and also having the same problem with the USB 3.0 ports but not the USB 2.0 ports. The problem only exists USB 3.0 to USB 3. Meaning the USB 3.0 ports work fine with USB 2.0 devices. I had the same problem with my 2012 Macbook Air, the first Air with USB 3.0. I am sure it's a driver problem. I also had the same problem with the dock for the Surface 1.

Hmmm funny you mention the MB air. That's how I knew there was a problem. My 128 GB thumb drive, formatted on the SP3, stopped being read on the SP3. Popped it in a 2011 MB air, and bingo, no problem.

Did the issue get resolved on the SP1?

Did you try connecting your Z30 via WiFi to your SP3. That's what I did.

Could only solve problem on SP1 with a USB 3.0 hub that installed it's own driver. The hub has 7 ports and at any given time some will not work. However a USB 2.0 hub works perfectly but that means essentially turning my USB 3.0 into a 2.0. The reason why you had success on MBA 2011 is b/c it's USB 2.0. There is no problem with the USB 2.0 ports only the 3.0 but you are not getting 3.0 speeds on the MBA.

I have a bunch of USB 3.0 flash drives, hard drives, etc., and do not have that problem. The port, however, is obviously underpowered as many users of external DVD drives have learned. Could that be the source of the problem?

Perhaps you didn't know, but Apple did not add USB 3.0 to MBAs until 2012. As such, you comment is quite irrelevant. The issue is with functionality of a USB 3.0 port.

O.k. so problem is solved. First, connect to dock go to settings and check for updates to make sure you have the latest firmware for the dock. Remove the Surface from the dock & anything else attached, reset it by simultaneously holding down the power button and the volume up button. After black screen appears, hold for another 10 sec then let go. Wait another 5-10 seconds then put back in the dock and restart. Should be o.k. and I was even able to power a Samsung DVD writer which as mentioned b/f was also having a problem.

Yes, but when I'm doing a sachesi OS update (or Chrome), it doesn?t work. Needs the USB connection.

That also doesn't help with my thumb drive that has a ton of my video on it. All my PCs, and my friends' Macs recognize it. My SP3 is the only thing that can't read it.

Sorry I'm not sure then. I had no issues with 10.2.1, and now I'm running 10.3 beta without any of those either. Maybe delete Link and reinstall? Perhaps the drivers didn't install properly the first time?

Did you install 10.3 using an autoloader, or by BAR install? and, if by BAR install on your SP3 or another PC?

I do suspect that there's something wrong with my USB port. Thus the thread.

OTA via BlackBerry...I signed up to beta test for 10.3.

This is driving me nuts. My USB port is basically useless for anything that requires a consistent connection for more than 20 seconds or so. I can't transfer files (e.g., video files), I can't back up my phone, I can't do anything USB dependent.

I also have problems with the USB port on my Surface Pro 3. In fact, there are two in use and both have problems with the USB ports. The only solution I have found is using a 4 port USB hub that I purchased from Staples. My thumb drives, 500 GB external storage drive and BlackBerry Z30 are able to maintain a connection to my Surface Pro 3 while using the hub.

After several attempts, I am still unable to use Sachesi on my Surface Pro 3. I attempted to install Snap on a new Q10 using Sachesi and it would not work. Someone else on this forum mentioned Sachesi not working with his Pro 3.

I also can't get Sachesi to work on the SP3. I haven't had luck with a USB 2.0 hub either. Same issues. Very frustrating.

I just got my SP3 today for work and am having big issues well with this. Sometimes I have to reboot to get the USB port working again.

I have a Sandisk flash drive that works ok.

An LG slim USB optical drive (the one with 1 USB cable) and it works 50% of the time. Sometimes it will connect and disconnect, other times it will work fine, but only for a short time, like 15mins at the most. ITS MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO INSTALL ALL OF THE SOFTWARE WE NEED FOR WORK!!!!!

I also have a USB hub with Ethernet, yeah, that buggers up too. DAMMIT MS!!!!!!!!

I even have the latest firmware from this morning!!!!! This is brand new out of the box and can't even use it for work! We are going to return $4,200 in SP3s if MS cannot resolve this ASAP!!!!!

...don't even get me started on the power supply that failed brand new out of the box after only 1 ******* hr!!!

I really thought I would love the SP3 but this USB port issue is making it absolutely impossible!

It's something that seems like a minor issue but is really very serious. By far the most disappointing thing with this PC. It's totally unreliable.
