USB vs probe charging

I recently obtained a last years model HP Spectre x360 which is my new Linux Mint machine. It has USB-C charging, which I find curiously satisfying compared to the standard "probe" sort of charging. I like that the USB-C port is multi-function, and can be used to connect a usb-c device. What is the general opinion of USB-C vs "probe" charging? As much as I dog Apple for their arrogance, and overall attitude, I really appreciate their (now abandoned) Magsafe charger as well I wish more laptop manufacturers had adopted that charging manner as well.

You can sorta get the magsafe experience with adapters you can find on Amazon or Ebay. Search magsafe replacement. Basically they provide 2 pieces, a USB C adapter piece that plugs in to the USB C slot and has a mag end on the other side, the other piece plugs in to your USB C cable. THEN when in use if you trip in to the cord it unplugs! :)
