Verizon Rolling Out AWS What About The 928?

If my memory serves me correctly, the 928 needs an update from Nokia to turn LTE-A on. Only thing I have not read or seen is when they were targeting to get that update out or if it is just going to be part of the Nokia Black update. If it is part of Nokia Black then I would not expect the update till a short while after the Lumia 929 gets released. My opinion is Lumia 929 gets released first, which has the Black update, and then they start rolling it out to the Lumia 928.

VZW would never miss an opportunity to snooker customers into an unnecessary upgrade (929) whilst the LTE performance of the existing (928) handset grinds to a halt... only to be resolved with a later update.

The update doesn't come from VZW, it comes from Nokia. The feature is available on the 928, just not turned on. I don't think people will be standing in line to upgrade to the 929/"Icon" for the LTE-A feature. Those that decide to go from the 928 to the 929 will be for the HD display and the camera. And how exactly does LTE performance grind to a halt. There are a lot of variables that can affect LTE performance, but I seriously doubt VZW would purposely affect it, just to get you to upgrade. Especially when at the moment, VZW is arguably more reliable than the other carriers but if I am not mistaken AT&T and even T-Mobile can claim faster speeds, hence VZW wanting LTE-A to close the speed gap and in some areas I'm sure exceed it.

my point is that they are not investing in the non-A LTE network, so as subscribers are added performance will go down. this has definitely, definitely happened in boston.

Verizon confirmed last summer that the 928 would be one of the existing devices that would be updated to work on AWS (the others being the GS4 and BBQ10). I'm 98% sure with the timing of the releases that it will be included with Black.

Nokia received permission from the FCC: ID QMNRM-860 (Approved Feb 22, 2013) for an in the field software upgrade that would enable LTE band 4 (UL 1710-1755 Mhz, DL 2110-2155 MHz) on the Lumia 928. I contacted Nokia Care and received the following reply.

"I hope for your kind understanding as for now, there is no such information available in our end regarding the radio software upgrade enabling AWS on the Lumia 928." Josh (10:07:56)

So, it looks like the threads question "Verizon Rolling Out AWS What About The 928?" remains unanswered. I have posted on the Nokia Discussions forum concerning this and will post any responses I get here.
