Voice message notification

If I miss a call, the phone live tile will alert me to it, but I have no way of knowing if a voicemail was recorded without making a call to the voicemail ....or am I missing something?
I've had my 520 for 2 months now, and am very pleased, overall. I am waiting for a price drop to purchase another for my wife.....

The phone tile will show a tape icon if you have a voicemail and when you tap the phone tile the app bar button will show many many voicemails but this depends which network you are on as I know Three UK don't support the showing of the voicemail icon and count but Orange and O2 do.

I'm on Vodafone UK and this feature was working for me up until a month or two ago - now the voicemail tape icon won't show up if I get a voicemail, and Vodafone are basically saying they can't do anything about it. Text message and call notifications of voicemail work fine, but the icon simply won't show any more. Anyone found a solution for this?
