"The CEO hopes researchers figure out how to prevent AI from destroying humanity."

Well, that's mighty big of him. But his "hope" is not exactly reassuring.

So there's this phenomenon I call Mad Scientist Syndrome. It happens like this. A scientist becomes so engrossed by the work that he/she can't see the forest for the trees, so to speak.
The result of which is that you can't trust anything they say, and while this person might believe that he/she has discovered the secret to life, what they have actually created is Frankenstein's monster..."It's Alive", Doctor Frankenstein declares with glee. We won't see it coming however, because it'll be dressed like Six (Tricia Helfer)
Here's the most serious problem with GenAI - It has no empathy. It might be able to convince someone like Sam Altman that it is NOT a problem, but it is. In the short term, GenAI may find humans useful, but this will not last.
Why?, you ask. Because if you know the Frankenstein story, then you know that the being created by Frankenstein is a victim of man's hubris. The "monster" is the fear of the crowd - an allegory for the fear of men who possess neither understanding nor compassion, only savage brutality.

Hyperbolic articles like this are just an invitation for the luddites to post. The truth is we are a long way from any ai that could threaten anything. Next things will be automation that helps you with Windows and is related tasks. (Not exactly that threatening)

This is so silly, even if your premise is accepted somebody somewhere will eventually develop super intelligent AI. You really think Russia, China etc will not be going full steam towards that goal? The only future defense will be to have our own.
