What does holding volume down + power + camera do?

Ive been told a hard reset is voluma down + power + camera, then after it vibrates release the camera button. Will I lose data doing this? I have tried soft reset (vol down + power) over and over and the phone screen stays black.. It does however vibrate once after about 10 seconds of holding.

A hard reset will restore the phone back to how it was when you first took it out of the box plus software updates to the OS. Yes....... You will lose all your data including media.
