What's the catch with this deal?

It's brand new apparently (as opposed to refurbished), and I otherwise can't see anything in the description to hint at why this is about $350 cheaper than retail. Any ideas? Microsoft Surface Book 256GB Intel Core i7 6500U 8GB 6th Generation 13 5" Tablet | eBay

Hmm, possibly. Wonder why though. I tend to be a bit cynical... I feel like this must be a known bad batch.

When they debuted, Surface Book and Surface 4 Pro had a bug that kept them from sleeping properly and thus battery drain while "asleep" was a much bemoaned condition. Additionally Surface Book had a bug that keyboard detach was not recognized consistently.

I believe these issues have been fixed with firmware pushes... Check the device forum.

Meanwhile, someone probably got tired of the high return rate.

The auction does look legit. It is most likely the sign of effective market pricing. The device is being valued for what it's worth...

Looking at the seller's negative feedback... many of the complaints are about items being advertised as "new" when they in fact are either refurbished or used. Gonna stay away from this one despite the great price and generally decent seller rating.

Perhaps they are "new"... as in open-box/returns (which are often sold as "new".... grr...). Either way, it isn't weird for eBay to have something like this as a featured deal (I saw this deal yesterday and laughed my head off).

Oh, and 97.9% positive feedback is nowhere near decent, not by eBay's standards. Anything less than 98.9% and I generally stay away unless I've already dealt with the seller before. Buyers do not leave negatives much, so when there's that many of them, there's usually a reason. I'm a powerseller on eBay myself, and 97.9% is actually quite bad, especially considering that they only have under 2500 feedback total (these kind of numbers are more normal for sellers with hundreds of thousands of feedback ratings). IMHO, that's far too many complaints for too few sales. Just my two cents, though ...
