Whatsapp backup on SD card

My whatsapp auto backup to my SD card everyday. That's 1 file a day (15MB each). It's eating away my storage. Anyone know how to disable this?

I use the native file manager 'Files' to delete them every week to free up storage. Sadly I can't find a disable option either.

There is only 1 way as I see it (as of now) without installing any third party app...Plug it in to a computer and delete the backup file..!!!

I'm using Lumia 620 which is still running on amber. I want to upgrade the windows. Does upgrading windows clear your WhatsApp chats? Is there is a way to back up WhatsApp data to an sd so that I retain my chats after the upgradation? Because I really want chat history. Please kindly leave an answer.
