Whatsapp chat history restore after hard reset

If I hard reset my phone and install whatsapp, will my chat history restore? The FAQ says I can do a backup and then later on restore but it wasn't clear if that can work for hard resets

The backup will be made on sd card, so you'll can restore it after HR (You don't have to select the option "Delete SD card too" when starting HR)

yes. I hard reset this morning and when installed whatsapp, it found a backup and restored my messages from it! go ahead! make sure your backup is on SD card. if it's on phone memory it will be viped

Well, I have a lumia 1020, which did not have sd card support, so I'll have to backup by emailing chat history. Going to take me a while

Bah I find it stupid that unlike FB Messenger and Telegram what's app needs a local backup, really behind competition on this side of things.

Since the update to 10586.29, I have seen WhatsApp updated twice by the store.

I suggest, if you have any issues, go to the store, choose Downloads & Updates then, Check for Updates.

Let it update all apps. Soft reset (I like to soft reset after updates) and see if you have a difference.

I'm not hard resetting because of whatsapp but for better performance in battery and speed (I hope). Besides losing whatsapp history there's a high chance I'll lose here maps and lumia camera. But I've never hard reset so I wish to try that out

I have not hard reset once since going to 10586.11 and then 10586.29. Everything works fine.

Let the apps update. Hard Reset will not fix WhatsApp
