WhatsApp turns office docs into Zip files

Have a brand new HP Envy laptop with Windows 10 etc. All good, but use WhatsApp desktop all the time to share files with people. Ok on PDFs or png's but anything from Microsoft Office, word, excel or powerpoint turns onto a zip file on attaching and recipient can't read. Does not happen on home computer or ipad, just new laptop
