When calling on my Lumia 730, why do the background controls become passive?

on calling in Lumia 730 background controls become passive

Whenever I call with lumia 730 then it gets lock and background light gets off. This results in passiveness of all call controls i.e. i can't even end my call.In short, phone get locked n to enable controls i need to unlock it.This hinders smooth call functioning and doesn't let me to perform any task meanwhile.
Kindly suggest me solution.

Sounds like the proximity sensor isn't working right.

Remove any screen protectors, clean the screen, and try it.

It might be defective.
