Where are my files and how can I get them back?

I upgraded to Windows 10 and all my documents etc. were missing, after locating them in the Windows.old folder I restored them back to My Documents. After using Windows 10 for a while I decided I didn't like it and downgraded back to Windows 8.1 to which I am currently using except all my documents, pictures, videos, music and everything else has all gone. Where can I get them back?

The question is how did you restore them from the windows.old folder?

Did you cut and paste or?

If you moved them out of .old, you removed the automatic rollback ability to restore them.
