Where have my calender entries gone?

I had lots of entries stored in my calender, important birthdays/anniversaries, future events, things I just needed to remember, all of a sudden, they're gone, they're not on the cloud calender despite having the option to sync (and future events that were created recently are still there) but everything else (recurring and single events) has gone
