Where is the best place to buy this phone outright (not subsidized)? I have identified a few different alternatives and I am hoping some of you might recommend a few others or talk about the benefits and risks of choosing one source over the others.

1. Directly from HTC (the manufacturer)
2. Amazon
3. A retail store like Best Buy
4. Ebay
5. One of the cellular service providers (Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile. Sprint apparently does not sell Windows phones anymore.)
6. ??????

Also, in connection with Sprint, even though they are not currently selling Windows phones of any type, they continue to provide service for them. Is it possible to buy a HTC One M8 for Windows and purchase cellular service for it from Sprint, even though they have never sold this particular phone?

I guess I am a bit of a tightwad, as I am always looking for the best prices on purchases like this. As far as I can tell, Ebay appears to have the lowest prices, but you do not know who you are buying the phone from, so there is more risk and a higher potential hassle factor involved in purchasing something like this from that source.

Do any of you have any advice on what is the best place to buy one of these phones outright on good terms at the best price? Thanks.

If you are a T-Mobile customer it's on sale for $535 USD until January, otherwise Amazon would be my second choice where it's available for $599 without contract.

I bought mine outright for $390 with original cables and the dot case at swappa.com it's a really good website. The people running the site do not allow any crap to be sold there. They do a background check on the phone to make sure it's not stolen or dysfunctional. I would say to give a try. Plus the prices..alot cheaper then eBay

Microsoft store. A lot of products sold by amazon loose their warranty when you buy through them.

A manufacturer's warrantee is set in stone, HTC will fix it in the first 12mths and even one broken screen for free in the first 6mths. AT&T actually have good service centers that will service devices regardless of where purchased if you are under contract, guess it depends on your expectations as Amazon is just a 3rd party seller.

I would suggest Swappa, your local Craig's list if you can hold and check the phone out completely.

The first thing to do is decide which carrier you want to use. Then buy one that is priced best for that carrier. I believe Verizon, AT&T and Tmobile are the US carriers now.

If you want to buy safe, Microsoft store.

Yeah I think on phones you might be right.
But in a lot of other electronics, the companies will not honor the warranty, believe me I speak from experience.
