I used to love blackberry. I loved the 'proper' keyboard and then they went to pot with touch screen. In the mid to late 90's pretty much everyone in business had BB for emails and BBM. Even their attempt at a tablet was pleasant, but, like others, they were hit by the new kids on the block. Like WM apps were an issue, the devices, whilst trying to stay current, were outpaced by the droid brigade. I miss my old Blackberry. Even they have turned to android.

W10M has a last hurrah. If the enterprise market don't take to it, then that could be very well the end of it all...

Became a BB fan in 2009 and jumped ship in 2012, haven't looked back since nor do I really care whether they succeed or fail, past experiences left a sour taste in my mouth after much deceit and lies.

W10M, I see a pace that indicates it is going to be a long haul and for that reason I've chosen to step aside as of yesterday, no real deceit or lies but way too much confusion/uncertainty as to where it'll end up, don't see the story being quite like BBs but at the rate it is going it will be designated as a "wannabe" for some time to come.

I think they are quite similar story...

Both are late to the market with partial complete OS (compare to original iOS/Android) yet have slow update speed and almost no-change in UI for the last three to five years.

Both are stuck themselves in QCom S4 family for such a long-time yet still trying to over-price their low-spec hardware by just one or two unique feature that wasn't really make huge impact to the market. They also both trying very hard to build the myth "We are so good at fine-tuning our device that it runs fast even we use creepy hardware".

Both are failed in ecosystem resulted in limit app support which drag the whole UX and make the price-tag more unattractive to an average joe buyer.

Both have group of blind fans yelling for new "flagship device" but just coward back to be a waiter whenever the new high-end device is out and holding their three years old device saying how good it is, doing no cash flow to the company like it was the International Committee of the Red Cross that just exist. (Well I recon it's 50/50 on the company/fans)

Windows mobile now trying to come back with universal app but still way to go regarding the performance and stability, some first wave app port over to UWP is just....meh.

BBRY give up their own OS, BIS which makes them special and jump into the android battlefield yet still they are not down-to-earth to the battle. I can feel part of them still thinking "Hey I am the great BBRY and I'm gonna sit high on my price-tag, take that you china-made cheap toy!".

I don't know which one will stand better till the end.....

I think Windows phone will outlast BlackBerry, but to answer your question I think Windows phone is sadder personally to me because I love the OS, but am sick of the ecosystem. Blackberry was great for the time but was never really as capable as Windows phone. In the end, neither could really keep large enough of a core user group to stay solvent. In a similar scenario Apple kept just enough Mac users around that when the iPod and then iPhone took of, the company gained many more fans. Blackberry has no other products and Microsoft can't even translate all its Windows 10 users into support of Windows phone because there are no apps... And the apps don't exist because 97% of users either are on Android or IOS.

Don't think any story can be as tragic as the story of Windows Phone. Released to almost universal critical acclaim in 2010, then proceeded to fall into obscurity due to the incompetence of Microsoft and their inability to iterate fast enough with the new OS to make it competitive.

Key examples: slow to support modern CPU's thus rendering WP devices perpetually obsolete when compared to the competition;
slow to introduce critical OS features like background processing which meant apps like Skype were introduced but had to be actually open to receive calls and messages (even more unforgivable as MS owned Skype then);
Support for BT LE absent for so long which meant the initial interest in smartwatches passed WP users by;
Fancy demos of Xbox gaming but to date no native Xbox Live MP support and Xbox Live allowed to go from differentiator to obstacle for developers leading to them abandoning the system
Poor API development to allow creation of apps with features available on competing platforms.

Probably a ton more but the whole story of WP's poor position after 5 years comes squarely down to Microsoft just not doing enough to make their platform better and now ironically the low marketshare, which is a problem of their own making is now being used as an excuse to validate MS concentrating their efforts on ios and android.

And after 5 years the biggest joke is that the same people who have been in charge of the platform are still there running things, yet people expect things to change because they slap a new coat of point on the OS. Pretty much the definition of insanity right there.
