Unable to receive new Insider builds - Verify MS account window stalled

After some suggestions please.
Basically my Edge browser is cactus. Launch it and it opens for a few seconds and then it closes itself.
Internet Explorer and Chrome work fine.
It wouldn't a big issue (although I liked it when it worked) as I can just use another browser but (I think) it has impacted my ability to receive new Insider builds.
In my settings > Update & Security I can't check for updates because "Your Microsoft account requires attention to get Insider builds"
I click on "Fix this issue" and I'm pretty sure it launches a browser window (I imagine to re enter my password and verify the account) which does not work because the browser is borked.
Changing the default browser didn't work either, so maybe my assumption is wrong.
I tried a fix from the microsoft support site which ran through powershell and I think attempts to reinstall/rebuild Edge but that errors out because Cortana is running and I can't see to shut that off.
Thoughts?
Thanks

I'm not sure that should be hindering your ability to get builds. What you get when you click on "Fix this issue" is a pop that asks you to enter your password. No browser is opened. I just did that yesterday. Please try again.

Other than that, I don't think I might be of much help!

Re: Unable to receive new Insider builds - Verify MS account window stalled

Thank you!
When the pop up appears, it never gets to the point of entering an email address/password to verify the account.
It just sits there with the five little dots going around in circles for a few minutes and then the pop up box disappears.
The reason I thought it may be browser related is that Edge is the only other broken thing and the pop up box could well be using Edge (or a part of it's functionality) to bring up the window.
Cheers
