Why can't I connect to my messenger app?

My internet is working fine and so does my facebook, but when I'm trying to use messenger, it says it's unable to connect to the internet. My phone is a Lumia 640 LTE.

Are you running Wp 8.1 or WP10? The WP 8.1 version of messenger no longer works because of facebook.
