Why Cortana does not read my SMS message to bluetooth?

I have my phone (Lumia 950XL) paired with my home phone system (VTech DS6472), in the Gadgets app's configuration for the device I have "Messaging" and "Phone" enabled.

In Cortana -> Notebook -> Settings -> Read incoming text messages aloud to "Bluetooth and wired headsets".

If my Lumia rings my VTech rings at the same time, but I never hear my VTech read my text messages.

Anybody have successfully set your home phone to work with W10M devices to read texts aloud successfully?

According to the text you linked for your VTech, intercom works between handsets (presumably the VTech handsets) but it doesn't mention support for intercom through bluetooth. Does the literature the VTech come with specify otherwise?
