Why did PC upgrade to Win10 Home from 8.1 Pro ?

Laptop originally came with 8 Home, but I upgraded to 8.1 Pro last year. Do I need to restore back to 8.1 Pro and then enter activation code manually somehow, since it seems the autosearch function found the original code, not the upgraded code? If so, how to manually enter activation code?
