McAfee tells me to close down windows Edge and run internet explorer ??

Sounds like an issue you need to take up with McAfee directly, since internet explorer will not continue to get updates and will have security issues eventually.

Probably because Edge at the moment doesn't accept ad ons or extentions, I get the same with Norton for ID safe & browser protection.
