Why does my system reboots when trying to install updates?

System reboots with trying to install updates

Checking Windows Updates, it shows a number of updates available, one of which is a firmware update from October. When I try to download and install the updates, my system almost immediately reboots. I've tried selecting just the firmware update, same results. There are two buttons, one is Install and Reboot, the other is Cancel. Any ideas on how I can do the updates while holding off the reboot until they are completed?

You can't. The reboot is required so the system can update drivers and such that can't be updated while the OS is running.

You might have a corrupted database for the updates.
Open a command prompt run as admin. and run sfc/scannow
