Windows 10: Explorer.exe crashes constantly

So, yesterday I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and now I have somewhat of a problem. explorer.exe is crashing in such a manner that I cannot even get to the desktop before it's down. Whenever I try to start it from the task manager it just crashes again and again and again. However, I was, all of a sudden, able to make to make it work for an hour or so and then it went back to crashing again and again and again.

I'm having the same problem, and I haven't even been close to an hour of it working properly. I can certainly make it run via task manager, but it crashes again immediately.

I don't know if it might have something to do or not, but I had to upgrade via Windows Update because with the shorcut it stayed in "working on it" pretty much forever, and when I finally made the upgrade (and sometimes when I restart) an error with this sad face "" appears and it says something about driver_power_state_failure.

Exactly the same issue here, thankfully chrome is still installed and works.

Upgraded from Windows 7 home premium to windows 10 on the evening of the 29th checked on the morning and everything seemed ok. Constant crashing began when I tried using the PC after getting in from working on the evening of the 30th.

Had exactly the same problem. For me this was caused by Norton Internet Security being completely broken during upgrade. I've fixed it by downloading and running the Norton Removal Tool. The trick was to start Chrome and download the tool while fighting with the constantly blinking screen stealing input focus from input fields.

Of note, this happened after restoring mphotos, videos, music and documents via file history.

I am having the same problem, except sporadically. Explorer crashes about every 2 hours and once on startup. It takes about 5 minutes to restart. Seems to be a major issue. This is about the only issue I have had, except for linking accounts on one of my machines.

I got rid of the recent files and the random folders that show up on the quick access and gog explorer to default to my Pc. That seemed to work.

a fix for the error of the constantly crashing explorer has been rolled out (kb3081424). Unfortunately, my recently upgraded system (from w7 to w10) still keeps crashing. Something with svchost.exe, me thinks.

Is there anybody who hast and/or ideas how to fix this unwanted behaviour?

I had a simillar problem. The CVSNT installed by tortoise CVS had a .cpl (control panel feature) that was in conflict with some permissions.
I found the problem in the event viewer in a side by side error event, after seeing some information of the error in the norton history.
