Why does the camera view on Whatsapp appear as stretched?

Whenever i try to send a picture taken with the inner camera via Whatsapp, it stretches, in that it is not scaled as normal. If i rotate the camera it sort of elongates the shapes, or it stretches them. The phone camera works normally. I tried reinstalling to no avail.

I am using a Lumia 640 and haven't had any recent updates to the soft.

Does someone know what is causing this and how can it be fixed?

Whatsapp problem. May be their support can tell how/why app is working like this.
