Why does the screen go blank when making calls

WHEN i MAKE A CALL THE SCREEN OF MY LUMIA 735 GOES BLANK. i HAVE TO PRESS THE POWER BUTTON TO TURN IT BACK ON TO USE IN- CALL FUNCTIONS

Its called a proximity sensor. That turns off the screen while in a call. It supposed to do that. Why do you write in all caps? UMAD?

It should turn back on when the phone is away from your ear.
