Why don't I have an option to delete my email account?

[Windows Central Question]

There is no option to delete my email account

When I press on the account I only get 'sync' as an option. According to the instructions I should get 'delete' also ...

In settings go to email+ accounts and hold down on the account u want to delete.
You will then get 2 options sync and delete.

If it's your main Microsoft account for your device you cannot delete it only sync.
Basically you'd have to reset your phone to get rid of this account.

Why do you want to delete it? The phone wont work without this account. It needs a Microsoft account for backup etc

Thanks for the reply.
Basically my email stopped working on my phone. I had messages from windows suggesting I delete the account and reinstall: there was a server problem.
I can access the account (it's a Hotmail one) via my pc and via another phone.
I have added another account to the phone and done a soft reset but it won't let me delete it: sync is the only option, which doesn't work anyway.
If I do a hard reset I will lose all my personal data I understand.
Surely there must be some other option ...????

Hard reset may be the only way I'm afraid then.
See if it's still possible to do a back up first, then hopefully it'll not be so long winded setting it up again.
Hard reset will wipe all the data from the phone but not your account.

Wait, why do your want to delete it? Is it the primary Microsoft account or the second Microsoft email you mentioned?

Well if its main account then hard reset it is
