Why has the calander on phone cleared all appointments?

Calander on phone has cleared all appointments

calendar on my phone has cleared all my appointments, they still show up on my laptop calender but the two no longer seem to communicate with each other and when i try to sync the two nothing happens. how do i get all my appointments back without having to manually re-enter each one.

Settings>> email and accounts>> your calendar account>> make sure the calendar is checked as an item to sync
