Why is it saying working on it for an hour plus?

why is it saying working on it for an hour plus?

i went to update and i clicked update now and it is still saying working on it from that, i have tried it 3 times and it has been in this "working on it" screen for an hour, im waiting for another step but i cant get past that first screen, i have windows 7 and 500 gigabytes of memory so there should be no problems.
