Why is the upgrade to windows 10 stuck on "preparing for the upgrade?"

I believe I downloaded windows 10, clicked on "I accept" and now why has it been stuck for almost 4 hours on "preparing for the upgrade"?

It took longer than 4 hours for my machine. Way more. I ended up going to sleep and finding everything fine the next morning.

Looking at the time of your post, it should be fine by now. If it isn't by now, then you've got a problem with it for sure.
