what version of OS are you on? And do you have the latest version of whatsapp installed?

I have the same issue on my HP Elite x3: the QR-code is shown, but the Windows Phone Whatsapp app just does not recognise any QR code present.

This might of course be related to QR search functionality being removed altogether.
I don't need to read a QR code often, but if I do, I need it FAST.

It used to be 1. magnifying glass - 2. eye - 3. scan!

Then it was less usable, hidden in a lens.
Now you need a 3rd party app.

It's like saying: 112 (or 911) is hardly ever called. Let's remove this feature.

Since Whatsapp in basically a phone app you have to do it. Go into the App (on phone) and from setting the 3 dots at right side and select Whatsapp Web. If you get the screen asking to log out from all computer hit that. The go back into Whatsapp Web and your camera will scan for the QR code. Point the camera to the App on your computer and the screen will switch to show you messages that you see on your phone. It will only allow you to do this on 1 PC at a time.
